Eating disorderEating disorders are the sign of illness due to unhealthy eating habits and contribute to stress and worrying about physical conditions i.e. body shape, weight, fat etc. Unhealthy eating habits include overeating and insufficient intake of food on regular basis. This can dramatically affect your mental as well as physical health. With the advent of science and modern technology, scientists are continuously doing research on how eating habits can impact your health.

According to a study, it was found that developing bad eating habits depends on several other factors, including parent’s criticization on the weight, fat, and physical conditions – this can trigger unhealthy eating habits.

Types of Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can be categorized into dozens of types, and they can be dangerous – even life-threatening. A study at the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders stated that, almost 20% of the people looking forward to treatment for eating disorders die. Therefore, it is necessary to have a little know-how of how these disorders develop and what are the symptoms. The most common types of eating disorders diagnosed in the people are as follows

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Bulimia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is the most dangerous eating disorder in all these 3 disorders. According to NEDA, around 2 percent of women and 0.3 percent of men in America holds the history of a lifetime Anorexia. It can occur due to the following reasons

  • Low-calorie intake
  • Low BMI as per the age, sex, and height
  • Weight gain phobia
  • Intense stress about the body weight – even if the patient is underweight

Overall, Anorexia Nervosa disorder often develops in underweight yet thin people.

Binge Eating Disorder

Binge Eating disorder is found in people consuming a large amount of food. Overeating and indigestion is certainly the main cause of developing this disorder. It does not have anything to do with physical stress, purging, and over-exercise.

A decent diagnosis of the Binge Eating Disorder includes overeating at least once a week. Moreover, the following are the expected reasons why you can develop this eating disorder

  • Eating faster than usual
  • Overeating even when you aren’t hungry
  • Indigestion
  • Eat up to an uncomfortable feeling

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia is a life-threatening eating disorder that mostly occurs in the early childhood. This eating disorder is often found in people who eat a large amount of food in a very short time. A decent diagnosis for this disorder is eating until the person in uncomfortably yet painfully full. Binges are common with almost every type of food. it can occur due to the following reasons

  • Continuous binge eating
  • Purging and bingeing at least once a week for over 12 weeks
  • An influence of heavy weight
  • Losing control over eating during the binge
