Nutrition in Animals:
Animals are heterotrophs i.e. they cannot synthesize their own food and obtain food from external sources like plants, animals and their products.

Majority of the animals are holozoic. Depending on the food habit, the holozoic animals are classified into three categories:
– Herbivore
– Carnivore
– Omnivore

Nutrition in Amoeba:
Mechanism –
– Ingestion
– Digestion
– Absorption and assimilation
– Egestion

Nutrition in Humans:
Humans are omnivores.

The human digestive system consists of 9 meter long.

The alimentary canal is a long tube with muscular wall.

The muscular wall of the canal contracts rhythmically in order to push the food forward. This is called peristalsis.

It occurs all along the canal. The alimentary canal extends from the mouth to the anus.
