Health Conditions On the Rise Around the World: A Brief Overview

with No Comments

When it comes to health care and development in the healthcare industry, we can say that we have come a long way from how it used to be with our eyes closed. Tracing back to a hundred years ago, flu killed millions of people during the pandemic. With recent advances in the healthcare industry, there are measures and medical tests present on hand that can detect and treat influenza as soon as it strikes.

In addition, we have an International monitoring done through organizations like the World Health Organization. They prescribed vaccines as mandatory for protection from various viruses. With a global surveillance system in place, the spreading of such diseases can be controlled.

However, just because there are different systems in place does not mean that world health issues have been eliminated. With that being said, let’s look at some of the health conditions that have been on the rise across the globe.

Substance Abuse

The concept of substance abuse refers to the use of drugs, alcohol, and abuse of prescription drugs. People of all ages from teens to adult resort to doing one of the above-mentioned things which are not only illegal but also very harming to the health.

According to some behavioral studies, adults especially those hitting the middle age tend to self-medicate and use alcohol. This could potentially be a dangerous concoction. It can cause several problems because of the social conditioning that inhibits health practitioners from asking senior citizens and adults regarding possible drug or alcohol abuse. There should be an adequate training of healthcare professionals and emergency responders like paramedics to start working on asking these questions without being disrespectful.

Obesity

Being overweight is not a problem but when the boundaries between being overweight and obesity start to blur, that is where the problem starts to occur. There have been countless studies that have shown the close links between obesity and hypertension, diabetes type II, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, cancer, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and gallbladder diseases, etc. Due to an increase in fast food chains across the world, obesity has become a major problem that people still haven’t been able to counter properly to this day.

Mental Health Issues

People who think that dementia is a sign of aging should start reading up on different literature and face the reality – because its not. Dementia is not caused due to aging. Rather, it is a symptom of neurodegenerative. Or other diseases and people ignore it until it starts to form into a pathology. Therefore, dementia is often diagnosed at a much later in life. So, if someone you know is going through bouts of dementia, now is the time to pay a visit to a mental or physical healthcare provider. Apart from that mental health issues are on the rise across the globe which needs to be worked on.

In the coming years it is expected that, if no action is taken, depression might be the leading cause of death. People who still choose to ignore mental health should know that just like physical health, mental health needs to be paid attention and stigma surrounding it should be broken and every single person needs to take part in the process. There are ways of countering mental health problems and disorders via therapy or medication or a combination of both.

Environmental Issues and the link with health issues

Although environmental issues may not be something that people may pay attention to there are studies that have found them to be directly linked with numerous health issues. The global warming and deterioration of the ozone layer is a direct cause of skin cancer in races that have low levels of melanin. Apart from that, the polluted air that we breathe may also be a big cause for skin and lungs diseases.

Noise pollution has been conclusively associated with hypertension and irritability that may further be a cause of violent behavior and different mental health problems. So environmental quality should not be disregarded and people should actively take part in doing what they can to ensure that the environmental issues are being countered.

HIVE/AIDS

The stats from recent surveys for the USA only show that around 15% of the citizens over the age of 50 are diagnosed with AIDS. There are different causes of HIV and AIDS like shared needles, razors, condoms and other things could be the reason. This virus has been increasingly spreading which is why an annual screening should be done for this specific virus so that the symptoms can be treated right away. This virus has killed many because of the lack of awareness.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Another health issue that has been on the rise is of STDs. For people belonging to all age groups, should attend sexual awareness seminars because awareness sessions for sexual health are quite important to avoid the spread of these diseases that could potentially cause a lot of harm. Not only that, sexual health seminars also put an emphasis on using the right kind of contraceptive measures and protection. This ensures that people take care of their health and avoid unwanted pregnancies.

Sex-Ed sessions should be made mandatory in all schools. This will prevent child abuse as well as make young adults aware of the instill responsibilities of sexual health-related concerns.

In the recent surveys by World Health Organization (WHO), it is shown that not only adults but, young adults also can contract sexually transmitted diseases, and some do not even get diagnosed because of their lack of awareness.

Final Verdict

The world health issues still persist and these are the current ones that have been on the rise across the globe. The reason for listing them down here, is to ensure awareness and to instill responsibility amongst the masses. So that they do their part in being careful and getting their annual screening done. To ensure that they are in perfect health and also make the global community healthier.
